Betty Cutts President and Founder
Betty is a housewife and community volunteer with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She has taught as a volunteer teacher in a nursing home, many vacation schools, enrichment classes at Rowan County Middle School, an English as a second language (ESL) program, and two summer English camps in China. She has also served as a volunteer court appointed special advocate (CASA), hospital Pink Lady, and with Meals on Wheels. Presently she is treasure of Morehead Sister Cities and spearheads the Morehead exchanges with Yangshuo, Guangxi, China, Morehead’s Sister City. She and her husband David, a retired physics teacher, have two sons who are engineers with national companies.
Eric Zhang Vice President
Eric Zhang came to the US from the Yunnan Province of China in 1990 as a Chinese native speaker to assist the Chinese Language and Culture Program at Whitman College in Washington State. He then completed his Master's degree in Control Systems Engineering at West Virginia Institute of Technology. During his studies, he worked as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Mathematics. There he met his wife, Destiny, who was born in China but grew up in Chile. The couple have three children; Christina, Sophia and Nathaniel and reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Professionally, Eric has worked as a control systems engineer and senior engineer. While living in Lexington, KY, he taught a Chinese Language and Culture Class to middle school students at Sayre School.
Doris Wells Secretary
Doris Wells is a retired secretary and real estate broker who lives with her husband Mickey in Morehead, Ky. She has been to China to visit our students and often volunteers with Blessing Hands. She has a full life as a grandmother of five and mother of two.
Xiaomin Mai Board member
Xiaomin Mai taught English as a second language at Guangxi Normal University from 1996-2009. After being a visiting scholar in Morehead State University in 2010, she chose to come back to the USA and got a Master's Degree at MSU in 2012, while being a graduate assistant in the Education Department. She is the mother of Maggie, a student at McBrayer Elementary School in Morehead. She is married to Phillip Oney, and lives in Salt Lick, KY. Her connections at Guangxi Normal University have given open doors to English majors there to volunteer with Blessing Hands summer projects.
Erting Pan Treasurer
State University with a major in accounting. She is a lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma Organization, which is the international honor society for collegiate schools of business and a member of Methodist Church of Morehead. She is married and the mother of Shannel Skaggs, an elementary student. She has volunteered to be our full time accountant. She presently works as a loan officer at Sun Lending USA in Lexington, KY.
Matthew Liu Board member
Liu Jiefeng (Matthew) lives in Beijing. His family of five includes his wife, two little boys and a daughter living abroad. His parents were teachers in a poor mountain area of Guangdong Province. He graduated in 1992 from an electric power school, and worked for Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau until 2000. He is now focusing on financial investments. In 2013, he learned of Blessing Hands and began volunteer work developing plans and strategies and funded some projects. In April 2014, he officially became a board member.
